Dance like no one’s watching....

This isn’t only about dance, this is about everything that you held dear- an interest or a passion, but owing to lack of time, or other genuine (and not-so-genuine )constraints, have given up pursuing.

My last stage performance was on Freshers’ Night in my college when I was in 2nd year.
After that, it has only been the usual accolades at dance parties and the much talked about infatuated camera men of TV channels in college fests.
I have enthralled, I have loved and I have lived every moment of when I have danced…

Be it the confines of my hostel room, or a huge gathering.. I have been given credit for making those people dance who never stood their foot on the dance floor.

But,recently, I have been wasting my gift…

Fortunately, I have 66.8 GB space in my local disk, and I intend to utilize at least 10 GB of it to store songs. Assuming 5 MB to be the average length of one song, I can store at least (10 *1000)/ 5 = 2000 songs in my lappy.

All these boring numericals, only to prove how serious I am about shaking my leg,
(and the obvious other things)
I will be doing free -style…but God-damn-it I will do it!!

As a matter of fact, even now , while I post this, my brow is wet with perspiration..coz I have been dancing for the past one hour non-stop.

And I am feeling great. Naaah!!! AWESOME!!!!

So what are you waiting for?
Read the post na?
Now do some justice to yourself.. grab that old tennis racket, or pluck the guitar strings or simply dust your canvas and sit with your pallete
Life isn’t just to exist, it is to live.
GO! LIVE IT!!

And yeah, don’t forget the comments if this made a difference to you. :)

Wow it's such a wonderful sight to see a girl doing that kind of data calculation . i have 8 gigs of songs and i never purchased a single CD in my life. All downloaded , pirated stuff. but then that's how we all accumulate music in India..Isn't it

hmm..well have never seen u boast of ur literary vigntte..but have been treating myself with them for over six months now..

hmm...seeing u dance and then looking at my two left feet ..guess should have been a note to of the ripping numbers rather a blog reader..

do all that keeps variegated sky painted..

so u finally started with that music collection! about time i must say :-)

so hows the shaking going? altho ur title says dance like no one's watching, me wonders, who is watching?

never mind.. dunno,... me rambles..
does this mean, however, tat u will be working shorter hours now?

@Pdey

I love that quote!
In fact, it's my status msg most of the times,
Another on insanity:
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every moment of it

And yes, it's the music we hear that others don't ,that makes them call us insane. The rhythm of life..

@ On ur own

Believe me..nothing beats it..
to be able to enjoy one's own company

Not that I am much conscious of the people around -even when I am in a crowd.
It is only the music and me..and an occasional unfortunate or equally insane dance partner maybe :p

@vj

About that data thingie: WO! quite a sexist remark!
Lol..jokes apart..

It was the only way I could place my intentions precisely:)

P.S wudn't mind if u let me know a few of the websites u d'l-ed songs from ..

Aparna Ganguly said...

@zoxcleb
dance like no one's watching is a general statement to remind u..dance like there's no one even whn u r in a crowd :P
Doesn't mean u shud step onto others' feet with closed eyes
It shud only be u and the music...and nothing else..
Oh, n it doesn't mean i will be working any less- only will be giving myself more time :)

Btw, u never know..if walls have ears, they might have eyes too :D

@Shashi

Wow! You sound a lot like me! I love dancing too and it gives me a real high just to move my body to a rhythm.. I also went through the same phase though.. work and other things in life took their priority and I wasted away all the potential.. but recently I started dancing again.. have taken up Salsa classes just to get myself moving again and lovin' it! It never matters whether there is a crowd or no one, I dance for myself! Good to see someone sharing the same passion!

Wow! Some post (and really good one) after 18 days. All these days I used to expect a post from u & open ur blog everyday.
U r probably storing ur music in AVI format. Please go for MPEG-3 format. This will diminish the sizes of ur music files at least to 1/3rd. If u have extremely sensitive ears u will be fussy about the very small difference in the shrunken data in MPEG.
U did not give any indication about ur preference in music. Otherwise every reader would come to help u. Now, let me guess:
Bob Dylan? Probably, no. U did not react to his song in ‘It rained yesterday’.
Bryan Adams, Sir Elton John, John Denver? Probably yes.
Tagore songs, Old numbers of Kishore, Lata, Hemant? I will say, ‘All yes’.
U will find a large number of free download sites for any song of ur choice. Let us know.
Please keep the good work of blogging (& dancing too) gooooing!

zoxcleb said...

very true.. am uite sure they have eyes and ears too... reminds me of a story i read in Class 10... cant remember the name tho.

and going by what candid said, if u suggest some genres u prefer, u can be introduced to more such songs by the bloggers of the world!!
while u at it.. try www.pandora.com
gives u fantastic music to listen to, and it obeys ur taste!

At the bottom of the scale

we have man an animal.

Definitely, man an animal.

See that? At the upper end

of the scale, in extremis,

we have man a god

I noticed some Richard Bach fans around .. so here is something from illusions ...

Don tells Richard when he's teaching him cloud vapourizing, if you really want to remove a cloud from your life, you do not make a big production of it, you just relax and remove it from your thinking.

So, let us just ignore this person who is so ashamed of him or herself as to not even use an id ... just ignore anon and don't even bother to delete the comments.

Hope everyone has a good day!

hi aparna,

I'll repeat again : "Who can say no to a young girl? "

haha!

Anyway, i lived in osho commune for few months & there i danced 3-4 hours everyday with closed eyes mostly. That was wonderful.

And later, i attended many meditation camps in delhi & enjoyed the same thing : dancing madly.

Cheers, Rohit

Its seems that I am the only person enjoying the brawl....specially brewed up for me...
Lone wolf leads again the pack of the "intellectual" people with wise saying and all....
Don tells Richard when he's teaching him cloud vapourizing, if you really want to remove a cloud from your life, you do not make a big production of it, you just relax and remove it from your thinking.....
vade log vadi batten....by the way I was talking about John Sabestian Bach Lone Wolf...
What an irony....'Lone'....but so much into the pack...dude find your way out soon.
Anyways , I am seriously enjoying it and it would have been a greater fun had the original message be there.
BTW , dont worry , I am free just for some time and so would like to pester you people now and then :))

Anonymous said...

Hey plz plz plz...one more last msg...
@ everyone....picked up from lone wolf 's passage...let me quote..
"So, let us just ignore this person who is so ashamed of him or herself as to not even use an id ... just ignore anon and don't even bother to delete the comments."
It just reminded me of that cliche dialogue of bollywood movies....
"Kutte, agar ma ka doodh piya hai to samane aake dikha"...or something like that.....

The message below is only for kids above 18 and has an A certificate attached to it
---------------------------------------
@Rohitsahib...hey man whats the point of going to Osho ashram and meditation et al...
If you really want to have that outer body experience try some LSD and for inner body experience try some " Golden Brown "....ofcourse you wont get girls, but then after experiencing it you wont need them.

Ohhh...again that cliche...."dum hai to samane aake dikha , kayaron ki tarah peeche se kya waar karta hai"...
Get some originality man...
And guess I am not a big fan of "The Art of Living" ...so no hugging et al...please keep yourself off me ;)

@Zoxcleb....You are the only person I like on the blog, what does your ID mean ?

Hmm.. dont know much about dancing! Remember the Genesis song .. 'I can't dance!'. But good expressions. What are you? A linguist?

Prasoon said...

esutahmm.. interesting piece of writing..
speaking of passion - why guss it - u ain't busy nowadays - are you ? :P

and i'd say again re-quoting the words u love in a diff form - keep dancing n let the people who're not hearing the music believe that "U ARE INDEED INSANE"..
ur last stage performance was more than 2 years ago or was it 3 - very long n so - give urself a big BREAK n find a stage - how long should tha talent confine to just a room..

now am rushing to get my camera tho after reading the last statements here :P - have to LIVE A LIFE !!

n btw, looks like u have a lot of cleaning to do in the comments here - its all messy..[u may consider disabaling anonymous comments]

Anonymous said...

A vast radiant beach in a cool jeweled moon
Couples naked race down by its quiet side
And we laugh like soft, mad children
Smug in the wooly cotton brains of infancy
The music and voices are all around us

Enter again the sweet forest
Enter the hot dream
Come with us
Everything is broken up and dances.
