Reflections I snoitcelfeR

Got this tag from Pixie's blog. And I thought it was a good time to ask myself a few questions.
1. Pick out a scar you have, and explain how you got it?
Some scars can't be seen. And I'd rather not make them public.

2. What does your phone look like?
Slim. Almost anoerexic. Steel grey. Though black is my usual color.

3. What is on the walls of your bedroom?
Two mirrors. Yeah, I'm obsessed with myself :D

4. What is your current desktop picture?
The aerial view of a university I plan to join.

5. Do you believe in gay marriage?
Yes. If they are in love. Conversely, I don't believe in a marriage without love.

6. What do you want more than anything right now?
Wings to fly.

7. What time were you born?
A very blessed time ;)

8. Are your parents still together?
Yes

9. Last person who made you cry?
Someone not worth it.

10. What is you favorite perfume/cologne?
JMW

11. What kind of hair/eye color do you like in the opposite sex?
Any color would do. As long as the hair is lustrous and the eyes are expressive.

12. What are you listening to?
A piano piece.

13. Do you get scared of the dark?
Not always. Sometimes it's comforting. Am in semi-darkness right now.

14. Do you like pain killers?
Never needed any. I can take (touch wood) any amount of physical pain. Including active incisions

15. Are you too shy to ask someone out?
Who? Me? And shy? Well he has to be good enough for me to ask him out...

16. If you could eat anything right now, what would it be?
A walnut pastry with vanilla ice cream and hot chocolate sauce topping. Sheer temptation . MMMMMM

17. Who was the last person you made mad?
Bro. Definitely bro. ( Sorry pe-pu)

18. Is anyone in love with you?
More people than I can handle. Or so they claim. But I believe in the test of time.

Moid
And any body who'd care to be tagged. Just let me know so that I can drop by.

The ones always there

It was a comment on one of Shashi's posts. I took his advice and penned it down in my blog too:

Some days ago I saw a curious thing when I was waiting for my father at the airport while his flight got delayed by 45 mins. A kid came running to the arms of his father and was trying to hang down from his shoulder and touch the father’s laptop case. Both were giggling and unmindful when a chain of trolley came in being pushed by an airport staff. The father raised the child as far as he could so it wouldn’t get hurt and the trolleys hit the father's legs. It must have hurt him a lot but he didn’t flinch and he kept holding the child at a safe distance.

I was watching sideways. When the kid turned to show his full face, to my horror I saw that his left side was fully burnt and his left eye was damaged too. I thought of fire crackers or something. The kid was very naughty and had a pretty face on his right. And the father-son duo made a wonderful scene together. However, when I saw the entire face, I was filled with pity.

Our parents are like that. We all have scars that only they know about , yet they love us for what we are. And they try to protect us and keep us happy, warm and safe.

The Ten Commandments

TGIS !
So what do you do on a lazy Saturday morning?
I came up with these:
1. Tell your Mom about your bad habits before she gets to know about them.
2. Perspicaciousness might save you from making many a mistake. Be informed. It'll give you a clear sight of the situation.
3. A smile is the best thing you can wear.
4. Your family is your best emotional investment.
5. Respect the feelings someone has for you, even if you can't reciprocate.
6. Discover yourself. Each day. The rest will fall in place.
7. If you want the honey don't kick the hive. That is, there are better ways of getting your work done than showing your temper.
8. Be true to the dreams of your youth.
9. Learn to cook well. It's very difficult to be angry at someone who has just fed you a delicious meal.
10. Learn to love yourself in order to love others. Begin by forgiving first.

And here's the original Decalogue that God gave to Moses on Mount Sinai:

You can add your list of commandments :)

Say Hello to iPhone

Ever since the announcement by Steve Jobs at the Macworld Conference & Expo on 9 January 2007, gadget freaks all over the world have been waiting for the launch of the Apple iPhone. Now the date has been extended to be 29 June 2007 in the U.S. at 6 p.m local time, with a price of US$499 for the 4 GB model and US$599 for the 8 GB model. They will be available in Europe in Q4 2007 and in Asia in 2008.
With Apple filing more than 200 patents related to the technology related to iPhone, the hype has only increased. The world's obvious obsession with it is getting a bit out of hand though, with alleged iPhone spottings before it's launch. Why! Even I can't wait to wrap my fingers around one of those babies!
( In case, someone wants to give me a really good Bday gift - take note of this)
Right now I am drooling over this:

The next best thing since George Clooney :P (yeah , still under the influence of Ocean's Thirteen. I was drooling over him so much, I think I brought a deluge at PVR Spice:D )

Just 7 days to go! Happy gadget hunting :D

You know who Icarus was, right?

According to Greek mythology, Icarus flew too close to the sun with wax wings which melted causing him to fall into the sea and drown. He represents the impetuous and uncontrolled nature of youth.

I want to get an Icarus tattoo done but 1)I am not aware of the policies on tattoos at workplaces 2) I need to find a good tattoo parlor 3) Neither of the available options - one of classical style , another of the fictitious character from X-men, seem to be good enough :(
I want a mix of both. With both traditional and maverick features. Any designers?

And talking of designers, here is what DRM did for my logo.

Since I started with tattoos, I can not help mentioning this article I came across in NYTimes- Erasing Tattoos, Out of Regret or for a New Canvas.

#For other tattoo symbols and their meaning, you can have a look here

#Add more tattoo parlors to this list:

Happy Father’s Day, Dad.

And here's one of your favorite Dilbert strips.

I know you had a tiring journey yesterday and your luggage flew to Patna instead of Delhi-Kolkata-Agartala. I'll pray for your bottle of Worcestershire sauce and Caesar salad dressing to be healthy after the little adventure :D

You kept saying to yourself “Happy Father’s Day” as a pacifier . I hope it helped.
Because when the going gets tough, I try to conjure snapshots in my mind to make myself happy and it works.

Sometimes I wish I had more memories with you from my childhood. But Mom used to say that I’ve to pay a price for being your daughter. I believed her. We couldn’t ask you to be less than what you are.

I often wonder if my guy will be as caring and affectionate. And it’s not because of the splendid tea you wake me up with very morning or because you wipe my tears with your handkerchief ( to check how active my lachrymal glands still are :P ) or because you let me hold your forefinger like a little baby learning to walk when we go out together. It’s so much more than I can ever say.

I want to get to have a holiday with you and Mom soon. A real family vacation. With lots of cooking and mess in the kitchen. Cards, classic movies, a few family get together, jogging and gym in the morning, my calling you up at office in the evening to get home early and a little scotch :P ( I’m allowed now, ain’t I? )

I understood what family really means after I was seceded from it for my education, job, etc etc. Now I want to come home for a while before I leave again- further ahead with my journey.

Dene wala jab bhi deta , deta chappar phad k…
True.. Par baaki time kanjoosi kyu karta hai yaar?

It is a profile that I’d have given my right hand for- had it been offered to me a few months back. But I am in a dilemma. My chances of joining my MBA this Fall are strong.

Bro was furious at me for not having applied to the university of his choice. I think he still deems me a little kid. I love his possessiveness but I also want to prove that I’m grown up enough to make a few decisions myself.

Honestly, it is not considered very wise to apply to only one university. People believe in diversified investments. But I had other ideas about my admissions. I thought if I want to get admitted this year, my score should be good enough to get me through "the one" university of my choice. If I don’t, I can always apply to the other universities next year. My GMAT score will be valid ,plus I’ll have more job experience.

But it’s also imperative that I begin my classes ASAP. No matter what I decide to do, I’ll let you know. Right now? Life’s Good.

Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi

And talking of desi cinema I was awed by this movie on Zoom last night- Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. Geeta Rao ( Chitrangada Singh) plays an amazing role and so do her love interests- Shiny Ahuja as Vikram Malhotra and Kay Kay Menon as Siddharth Tyabji.

Siddharth is Geeta's first love since college and contiues to have an affair with her even after her marriage to Arun (Remember Ram Kapur from the tv series Heena and Monsoon Wedding?). Siddharth is an idealist who believes he can help villagers of Bhojpur in Bihar to revolt against the oppressive thakurs but is surprised by the servile attitude of the oppressed. On the other hand-Vikram is a realist, honest almost to the point of brutality and is a cunning "fixer" of things. He prides about his ability to know "who can be corrupted" and earns mega bucks using the same. In spite of his knowing what he wants, there's a certain desultoriness about him. The movie strats with the three of them as students in Delhi University and progresses further by etching the love, ambition and philosophy of their lives.

Geeta leaves her IAS officer husband to join Siddharth in his struggle and is beaten and dishonored in custody. Arun rushes to save her, informed by Vikram. A misinformation about Siddharth's death lead to an encounter between Geeta and Vikram and he sets out to find Siddharth in a hospital where the police is planning to kill the rebel. Siddharth escapes with the help of his aids but Vikram is captured by the police and they scheme to kill him and burn his face with acid so he can be passed on as Siddharth. In a failed attempt to escape, Vikram is injured and beaten up- almost to death and loses his mental faculties before he is saved by the several contacts he had built during the years.

Siddharth intimates his decision to leave India and study medicine in London, while Geeta has to part ways with him again because she wants to go back to the village and continue with her adult literacy program.

The clash between idealism and realism and the transition between the two makes it very difficult to label who was what. Siddharth starts off as an idealist in his early life and turns a realist, while Vikram who is a realist to the core, risks his life to find Siddharth and acts like an idealist.

It's definitely a love story with a difference and the title is apt and so are Mirza Ghalib's lyrics from which the movie derives the title:

Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi ke har Khwaish pe dum nikle,
bahut nikle mere armaan lekin phir bhi kam nikle
Mohabbat mein nahi hai farq jeene aur marne ka,
usii ko dekh kar jeete hain jis kaafir pe dam nikle

Some dumb questions and I need even dumber answers

1. Why do men play computer games meant for kids?
2. How can you learn the ABC of web marketing?
3. Why does your boss arrive early when you are late but is late when you are early?
4. What is the probability of a university accepting you when you really want to get through it?
5. What do you do when you go out on weekends and see witchy looking creatures with caked faces snogging up with gorgeous guys and you, who is apparently desirable, is dateless?

Will give the replies later. Want you to answer first.

And yeah- the bonanza question:
What do you when you are tired of being Miss Goody-two-shoes and want to do something really wicked?

This is an emergency question for a friend of mine: How to find a girlfriend in just two weeks' time?
More on this later.
