Ok....I am a commitmentphobic and I could never figure how two people can decide to spend the rest of their lives together..fall in love,get married.
Probably that only means..inspite of my regular diet of romantic movies- I never really understood the meaning of love...
No one wants to settle with a compromise.And being fiercely independent only makes co-existence a nightmare.
Individual freedom has been assigned so much unnecessary importance that the concept of "space"in a relation has assumed an unhealthy meaning.
I wonder if I should have been born 20 years later or I am too late...

The reason you could never figure out how two ppl blah blah blah is that you are scared. You might not like it, but thats the way it appears to me, afraid to make that one move which could teach you things. So what if you have been spurned in the past ... well if its the same person then yes, I guess thats a strict No-no. But one shouldn't be afraid to reach out to the unknown. You can't win if you dont dare .. but I guess win really isn't the word to be used here.
I couldn't agree more when you say that "Individual freedom" is such a buzzword these days that without it its almost like you were a product of the previous generation. Personally, I haven't understood the concept of space, and individual freedom, or mebbe what is ideally called freedom and space is something that I dont associate these words with today. In my 8 years of relationship with a person, whom I have eventually gotten married to freedom and space was not lacking and I am sure she could vouch for that too. Its just a question of getting comfortable with each other and mebbe just letting things be once-in-a-while esp when the other is feeling off-beat. Its being perceptive about when to lend a shoulder and when to cut back and just allow the other person to heal/recover/get in tune with rest of the world/just meander around in his/her thoughts.
Opposite values always exist together ... that creates harmony ... do you subscribe to Taoism ?
@Me-moi-myself
You are more than just right...
I am scared..I am more than scared..I am in the mortal fear of being let down again.
It's a case"Once smitten, twice shy"
I understand what you are saying. "Once bitten, twice shy". A very used & abused phrase. But being let down (even once again) isn't all that bad. It is a learning experience. But hey its your life, ur call. Just jotted down what I perceived and what I believe in, and provided an alternative .. umm .. can hardly call it theory .. mebbe "speculation" would be a better term ...
ciao :-)
