Review of The Handmaid's Tale

The Handmaid's TaleThe Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The most obvious question after reading the book is whether a Gilead regime is possible in America.
When individuals trade their rights for a false sense of security, totalitarianism like that flourishes. The Handmaid’s Tale is both the history and the future. Both a cautionary tale and a dystopian novel. When the political elites decide what to do with our bodies, enforced pregnancy doesn’t seem too far off a reality. In that regard, we are all Offred.

P.S. I found the text incredibly difficult to read and switched to the Audible version by Claire Danes which made it easier to follow. The writing style is not very reader-friendly.
