The background info is: C's boss had attended the PG program with the candidate for the interview, some 14 years ago when he made the "mistake" of insulting him. Now he wants to get even with the guy using C as a tool.
His present status is- he's avoiding phone calls of his boss quoting his occupation with "other" things- just to schedule the interview later and to buy him some time. The thought of having to insult a deserving candidate is killing him more than having to please his boss.

C’s boss is just a vindictive person living in the ghettos of his past. His rise in the social ladder has not taught him to come out of limited thinking.
Poor C. My guess is C will succumb to his boss’s pressure and is only delaying the interview.
Hmmmm...It reminds of a story...Pls hav patience...I wont get u into boredom...I dont know its true or not...But the point is worth noting...There was a saint who was preaching to his followers under a tree...Suddenly a scorpion fell from the tree into his kamandal (the sacred pot with sacred water)...The saint tried to took it out with his finger's...First time it stung him...and fell back into the pot...again the saint tried to pull it out with his finger's..again it stung..this happened quiet few many times...and finally after sometime the saint took the scorpion out...all the followers were watching this act of saint...one came forward and asked the saint why he did like tht..he asked the saint dint u know tht the scorpions are poisonous???...this is wht the saint replied...i do know well the scorpion are poisonous...when i decided to save its life, i know well tht i gonna get stung...but remember this, its the nature of the scorpion to stung...scorpion dont know i am trying to help it out...so it keep on stinging me...i can't and dont want to change its nature...but as a human being, helping other living being is my nature...i might hav got hurt in helping others...but still i dont want to go off from my nature...the point is nor MBA, MS or PhD teaches us, this life's lesson of what we are meant to be...its always had been a human tendency to await for the right time to take revenge...to vent out our vengeance over others, rgt from the pre-historic time...many grt kings to kingdoms have fallen just bcos of this timely revenge...C's position is bit pathetic...ok if i was in his position...i would go ahead with interview immd..and if he is really eligible i will select him...i don't want to listen to some asshole, though he is my boss...consequence, may be i will get fired or this will be carried over in my boss mind...if thats the case...come on yaar..world is big enough...i can find another job...just show him the middle finger and put the resig paper...as Aristotle said "pleasure in job puts perfection in the work"...when u know the job what u r doing is or going to do is unpleasing or not pleasurable...Why the hell on earth i would like to do that...else if C want to be polite enough and want to do justice to both side...take the interview...reject him...but meet that guy in person...explain this is the background of ur rejection...so that C as well the guy who was eligible doesn't have any heart ache abt what happened...at least u can always be as much transparent as u can off the record...its always easy to say "Forgive ur enemies but dont forget their names"...but u know this human mind is much more complicated than anything in this world...we never get rid of the hatred abt someone completely...its always a sleeping devil inside us waiting for the rgt time to wake up and attack...
2-minute management lesson:

If presume tht u r abt to say, tht C's manager is kinda person who went to bcom boss jus on some Bull S***...let me tell u one more 2 minute management lesson...many a times this is how it hapens..hope u would hav read this also...
When the body was first made, all the parts wanted to be Boss. The brain said, "I should be Boss because I control the whole body's responses and functions." The feet said, " We should be Boss as we carry the brain about and get him to where he wants to go." The hands said, "We should be the Boss because we do all the work and earn all the money." And so it went on and on with the heart, the lungs and the eyes until finally the asshole spoke up. All the parts laughed at the idea of the asshole being the Boss. So the asshole went on strike, blocked itself up and refused to work. Management Lesson: You don't need brains to be a Boss - any asshole will do.
BTW if C comes out and tell wht exactly the insult the candidate made to his boss, it would make more sense to judge whether C's boss is really a "vindictive person living in the ghettos of his past" or an asshole or a person who went to top position on some Bull shit ...else it will be a one sided argument...i personally feel when i am insulted beyond such a point wht i cant take, i would rather make tht guy who insulted me to feel so, immediately or in near future, wht it feels like, to hav such kinda insult...i feel absolutely nothing wrong in tht bcos few people wont realise things wht they hav done jus by forgiving...if they deserve...they will sure get tht from from me...
