What is the strangest predicament you have been in?

I got stuck on a glued floor while turning out the trash today. The workers renovating the carpet covers on the corridor in front of my apartment and their caution : "Watch you step ! " came a tad late. :D

Funny in a way. How we waste time musing over things that might/might not happen in the next 2-3 years when we don't know what will come to pass the next minute. The best and the worst thing about life is its unpredictability. Thinking about the past or future is so futile! Live for the day. Carpe diem!

Your predicament just reminded me of one evening during my first winter in Baltimore. First, the background info:

1. Black ice - you will probably be familiar with it by now, but for your readers who are not - it is when moisture on ground (usually from melting snow) freezes fast forming a thin coat of transparent ice.
2. Hopkins campus is built on a small hill, and the red-brick walkway in front of the library has probably a 15-20 degree slope; it is also not very well lit in the evenings.
3. When walkways are cleared of snow, there can be a pile of snow, several feet high, on either side of the path.

Now, imagine this - I am walking home one evening, I walk down a few flights of stairs onto a gently sloping brick lane, lined with piles of snow on either side, and realize that the entire surface of the path is covered in ice. I have nothing to hold on to, and it is not very easy to get off the path.

This was my dilemma, do I try to continue my slide downwards without falling down, or do I turn back (not an easy task itself) and try a different way?
