'Waiting for Godot' is a play by Samuel Barclay Beckett, an Irish playwright, novelist and poet. In the play three characters wait for Godot on a railway platform but Godot (actually God) never turns up. In the play nothing happens yet it keeps audiences absorbed. Beckett was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1969.

My next blog entry was supposed to be about rain... staying in a middle east country and sister calling up to say its raining cats and dogs back home...
brought back a lotta old memories, just that it needs a lil more time to formulate and flow freely..from mind onto two fingers onto the keyboard and into the machine...
nice blog, and lotsa visitors too. Add me as another one, just bookmarked your page!

Is ur employer making u work 14 hrs a day?
Should we move the labour court?

Aparna Ganguly said...

@candid diary

How about 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall' by Bob Dylan?

I saw a new born baby with wild wolves all around it,
I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it,
I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin',
I saw a roomful of men with their hammers a-bleedin',
I saw a white ladder all covered with water,
I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken,
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it is a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a gonna fall.

Or some songs on rain by Tagore (he has a large number of these songs), like,
Aaji Jharo Jharo Mukharo Badaro Diney,
Jaani Ne, Jaani Ne, Kichute Keno Je Mano Lage Naa …

Or 'Lamp of Love' from Tagore’s Gitanjali

Light, oh where is the light?
Kindle it with the burning fire of desire!
There is the lamp but never a flicker of a flame---is such thy fate, my heart?
Ah, death were better by far for thee!
Misery knocks at thy door,
and her message is that thy lord is wakeful,
and he calls thee to the love-tryst through the darkness of night.
The sky is overcast with clouds and the rain is ceaseless.
I know not what this is that stirs in me---I know not its meaning.
A moment's flash of lightning drags down a deeper gloom on my sight,
and my heart gropes for the path to where the music of the night calls me.
Light, oh where is the light!
Kindle it with the burning fire of desire!
It thunders and the wind rushes screaming through the void.
The night is black as a black stone.
Let not the hours pass by in the dark.
Kindle the lamp of love with thy life.
